Wound Care
Chronic, non-healing wounds, those that haven’t shown signs of improvement in several weeks or are not responding to typical treatments, need extra help to heal. Difficult wounds of this type are often caused by injury, disease or poor blood supply. Merit Health Wesley provides specialized treatment for these types of wounds.
Each wound is unique, and the wound care care team includes doctors and nurses with experience in chronic disease management and specialized training in healing chronic wounds that have resisted traditional treatment. An individualized treatment plan is developed for each patient in order to achieve optimal wound healing.
Ask your primary care physician for a referral, or you can call the center at (601) 268-5280 to schedule an initial consultation. Treatment is administered on an outpatient basis and adjusted as needed.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBO)
Hyperbaric oxygen chambers surround a patient with 100 percent oxygen at higher-than-normal atmospheric pressure in sessions lasting two hours. This increases the amount of oxygen in a patient's blood, allowing wounds to heal from the inside.
The chambers resemble a reclining bed encased in a clear acrylic shell. Patients can listen to music, watch tv or bring movies to watch on televisions mounted above the chamber. Patients remain in constant contact with medical staff outside the chamber via an intercom and personal headset.
