Merit Health Wesley Welcomes New Chief Operating Officer

Merit Health Wesley welcomes Carol Upton as its new Chief Operating Officer, overseeing hospital operations and clinical departments as well as physician relations.

Upton comes to Merit Health Wesley from Gilmore Memorial Hospital in Amory, Miss., where she has served as Assistant Chief Executive Officer since 2015. She has ten years of experience in healthcare leadership, having served as Director of Operations and Physician Services and Director of Business Development at Gilmore Memorial, and as Director of Business Development at Baptist Memorial Hospital.

“Carol has a proven track record of success managing a full range of hospital and physician practice operations,” said Steve Dobbs, Merit Health Regional President and Chief Executive Officer. “She will make a valuable addition to the dynamic team at Merit Health Wesley.”

Upton received a Master of Business Administration from Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tenn., and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Mississippi. She has previously been named by the Mississippi Business Journal as one of Mississippi’s 50 Leading Business Women and Mississippi’s Top 40 under 40. She was a member of the Leadership Mississippi Class of 2003.
