Merit Health Wesley Welcomes Interventional Cardiologist
6/27/2023
Hattiesburg, MS – Merit Health Wesley welcomes interventional cardiologist, Rami Heart, D.O., FACC, to the medical staff. Heart joins long-standing interventional cardiologist F. Alan Covin, M.D., electrophysiologist Abishek Jaiswal, M.D, and cardiovascular surgeon Gregory Groglio, M.D.
“The technology we have available in the cath lab today to help patients who either have heart disease or a heart attack is really amazing,” says Heart. “But the most important thing we do is to help our patients prevent themselves from ever getting to that point. I’m looking forward to getting to know my patients and community, and helping them stay healthy for years to come.”
Heart joins Merit Health Wesley from Premier Heart and Vascular Center in Tampa, Florida. He graduated with honors from Nova Southeastern University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. After medical school, he completed his internal medicine training at Largo Medical Center’s Suncoast Hospital in Largo, Florida. He then joined St. John, Macomb’s general cardiology fellowship in Warren, Michigan, before returning to Largo, Florida, to finish his training at Largo Medical Center’s interventional cardiology fellowship.
According to America’s Health Rankings, 12.4% of Mississippians report that they have been diagnosed with cardiovascular disease. With roughly 365,800 patients that need cardiovascular care in our state, access to cardiologists is increasingly important. Having an interventional cardiologist is particularly important because they are able to perform the cardiac catheterization procedures necessary to relieve the blockages and other issues that cause myocardial infarctions, better known as heart attacks.
Heart is currently accepting new patients. His office is located at 5003 Hardy St, on Merit Health Wesley’s campus in Tower B. To request an appointment, call (601) 261-5700 or visit bit.ly/MHCardiology.
