Merit Health Wesley Unveils New Critical Care Unit
9/20/2022
Merit Health Wesley unveiled a $3.4 million expansion for patients who need critical care. The hospital is adding an 8-bed critical care unit and a 12-bed step down unit.
The increase in critical care beds will allow the hospital to meet the needs of more patients who need a higher level of care. The step down beds provide care for patients who are transitioning from Intensive Care to standard inpatient care.
“It’s important our hospital continues to grow to meet these needs of the Pine Belt,” says Chief Operating Officer, Rick Kolaczek. “We designed these rooms to set the stage for the excellent care patients will receive from our physicians and nurses.”
Prior to the pandemic, the hospital began to experience a need for additional critical care beds. The onset of COVID-19 intensified that need.
The new rooms are equipped with state of the art beds and hemodynamic monitoring systems, which is particularly important to patients recovering from surgical and cardiac care. Each room was designed to provide ample space and furnishings for families to comfortably stay with their loved ones throughout their care. Rooms are set up to allow for optimal visualization of each patient by staff, for continuous accessibility and monitoring.
