Merit Health Wesley Launches Medically Based Service for Substance Withdrawal
10/18/2017
Hattiesburg -- Merit Health Wesley is launching a new service to respond to a significant, but sometimes unaddressed, community health need.
Beginning October 25, the hospital will offer One-Eighty ̶ a hospital-based, inpatient medical service for withdrawal from alcohol, opioids and other drugs, including prescription medications. One-Eighty is for individuals who have decided to take a 180 degree turn away from alcohol and drug use and are going in withdrawal or are beginning to feel the effects of withdrawal. One-Eighty is not for patients in advanced stages of withdrawal who need emergency care. Patients are voluntarily admitted to the hospital and are treated on a medical floor where the symptoms of withdrawal are managed to ensure safety, comfort and confidentiality.
“It’s important for recovery that individuals feel they have a safe, supportive environment in which to get well,” said Phebe McKay, Chief Nursing Officer. “Our person-centered care facility offers the confidentiality, safety, and security that are so central to a patient’s overall healthy outcome.”
The typical length of stay in One-Eighty is three days. One-Eighty staff collaborates with each patient individually to assist them in establishing a plan of care to meet his or her specific needs and to connect the patient with follow up services to help maintain sobriety after discharge.
How One-Eighty Works:
- Patients voluntarily call (601) 268-5180 to schedule a screening appointment.
- Patients are screened by One-Eighty staff for medical criteria and method of payment
- Patients come in for treatment as a scheduled admission
- Patients receive a tailored plan of care for follow-up treatment after discharge
One-Eighty Includes:
- Confidential, voluntary admission
- Medical withdrawal stabilization only: no outpatient services
- Quality care, directed by a physician, with 24-hour nursing care
- Acceptance of Medicare, commercial insurance and private pay
- Planning for next steps following discharge from the hospital
"One-Eighty provides those who want help with an outlet to safely manage the medical process of withdrawal in a setting that provides for their health needs. This helps make the first steps toward recovery encouraging, giving them the confidence that they can successfully maintain sobriety,” said McKay.
Merit Health Wesley’s One-Eighty office is open Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Commercial and private insurances, cash payment, Medicaid and Medicare are accepted. For more information, call (601) 268-5180 or visit MeritHealthWesley.com/One-Eighty.
