Hattiesburg, MS – Each year Merit Health Wesley recognizes the efforts and contributions of volunteers, as well as awards the Volunteer of the Year, the Spirit of Merit Health Wesley award and the volunteer with the most hours accumulated.
“We have great champions of service in our volunteers,” said Traci Rouse, vice president. “We appreciate the time, the smiles and the heart-felt gestures they give to our hospital and our community.”
Alma Wohlhueter was named 2019 Volunteer of the Year. Wohlhueter has been a volunteer at Merit Health Wesley since 2006 and is known for her dedication, her dependability and her wit. She has worked in many areas including the hospitality cart, information desk and volunteer office.
The 2019 Spirit of Merit Health Wesley award winner is Nell Whittington. This award recognizes a volunteer who exemplifies the hospital’s mission of Loving God, Serving Others, and Excelling in Healthcare and shows the true spirit of volunteerism. Whittington has volunteered at the information desk in the atrium for 10 years.
The 2019 Ben Broome Award for most hours served is Madeline Bingham. Bingham has served as a volunteer for 25 years and has accumulated more than 14,000 hours during her service to the hospital. She volunteered more than 1,000 hours in 2018. Bingham has served in many capacities and now serves at the information desk in the atrium.
