Hattiesburg, MS - Osteoarthritis can make everyday activities difficult to perform, and if non-surgical treatments aren’t effective, surgery may be your best option to relieve pain and stiffness. Knee replacement surgery is more precise and effective than ever before with robotic-assisted knee replacement.
As part of the hospital’s continued investment in modern technology, Merit Health Wesley has acquired a robotic surgical system to perform robotic-assisted joint replacement procedures. Robotic-assisted systems in joint replacement surgery transform the way knee and hip replacement procedures are performed, by helping surgeons to pre-plan, allowing them to know more and cut less.
“This system is very consistent and reliable in helping us achieve the best results for our patients. It provides a 3D reconstruction of your knee that allows us to create a personalized plan based on each patient’s unique anatomy before entering the operating room,” said fellowship-trained joint specialist, Jacob Folse, M.D. “This optimizes the precision of the surgery while decreasing the soft tissue damage leading to a quicker recovery.”
Merit Health Wesley now has three robotic surgical systems for minimally invasive orthopedic and spine surgeries that support faster recovery. The hospital also offers robotic-assisted surgery for hysterectomies, hernia repairs, gallbladder removals and other procedures.
“This addition to our orthopedic service line further demonstrates Merit Health Wesley’s commitment to provide the community with exceptional services and quality care,” said Chief Executive Officer, Matthew Banks. “We are proud to offer this technology and are excited for patients to see the improved outcomes that it can provide.”
